What Is the SEAI EV Charger Grant?

A government contribution to reduce your home charger costs

The SEAI Home EV Charger Grant provides a contribution (up to €300) toward the purchase and installation of a smart home charger. It’s designed to lower upfront costs and ensure safe, compliant installs by Safe Electric–registered contractors using SEAI-approved smart chargers.

SEAI contributes up to €300 toward a registered smart charger and its installation, helping offset both hardware and labour. The grant is paid after you install and submit the required evidence.

Only SEAI-listed smart chargers are eligible. These units support scheduling, remote updates, and energy management features that improve safety, efficiency, and running costs.

Installs must be completed by a Safe Electric registered contractor to Irish regulations. This safeguards your home wiring, earthing, and protective devices and is mandatory for grant approval.

The grant supports a single smart charger at a private residence with off-street parking, including commissioning and testing. Additional civil works or consumer unit upgrades may be outside the capped amount.

SEAI issues payment after you upload proof (certs, photos, invoice) and your claim is verified—so keep thorough records from survey to handover.

How Do You Qualify for the Grant?

Quick eligibility checks before you apply

Eligibility focuses on your property, charger, and installer. If you have off-street parking linked to your home’s MPRN, choose an SEAI-listed smart charger, and use a Safe Electric contractor, you’re well on your way to approval.

You must have off-street parking within your property boundary and a valid MPRN. The charger must be installed at the same address linked to that MPRN.

Homeowners can apply (even if the car hasn’t arrived yet). The property cannot have previously received home-charger support under earlier schemes.

The unit must be on SEAI’s Smart Charger Register. Using non-listed models will invalidate your claim, so confirm the make/model before ordering.

Work must be carried out by a Safe Electric registered electrical contractor. They’ll commission the unit, test protection devices, and issue the required certification.

You’ll need your MPRN/Eircode, charger make/model, installer details, and the ability to provide Cert 3/Test Record, installation photos, and a VAT invoice/receipt after the job.

  • Properties with prior home-charger support, installs started before the SEAI offer letter, or missing compliance documents typically fail eligibility.
